    • Wonsan - major Korean port city in the east coast of Korean peninsula

    This CLASSIC tour departing from Beijing is an exciting opportunity for AMATEUR runners to take part in the Pyongyang International Marathon which will be held on April 8, 2018: run 10km, half or full marathon in the capital of North Korea together with Korean and foreign professional and amateur runners. The marathon is a major opportunity for foreigners in North Korea to mingle with locals and learn about Korea from the first hands.
    Instead of taking part in the race you may just stay in Kim Il Sung Stadium and watch the marathon and a soccer match between Korean teams. Before the marathon enjoy extensive sightseeing program in Pyongyang and enjoy unique Trolley bus ride! You will also see Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) at the border with South Korea, and visit port city Wonsan at the east coast, and visit International Friendship Exhibition in Mt.Myohyang.

    ITINERARY

    The tour itinerary is a PRELIMINARY one. Korea Konsult reserves the right to change some parts of the itinerary below if needed. Eventual itinerary changes after the group arrival in the DPRK are beyond our control. Under no circumstances can Korea Konsult be held responsible for any itinerary changes.

    Apr 2 (Mon): Pyongyang

    • Air Koryo flight JS 152 Beijing-Pyongyang at 12.00 (noon) from TERMINAL 2, Beijing Capital Airport. Arrive in Pyongyang at 14.30 local time. Please be advised that the flight schedule is preliminary and due to peak season it may be changed with very short notice. Therefore we strongly advise you to arrive to Beijing at least one day before your departure to Pyongyang
    • Transfer to Pyongyang
    • Pyongyang Metro - one of the deepest subways in the world, it was designed to serve as a bomb shelter in case of war. The stations' interiors are stunning with superb lighting and mosaics. This is a great chance to interact with local people and explore several subway stations
    • Arch of Triumph - built in 1982 to commemorate President Kim Il Sung’s role in resisting Japanese rule, it is the second tallest triumphal arch in the world. Each of its 25,500 blocks of finely-dressed white granite represents a day of his life up to that point
    • Check in at the Yanggakdo International Hotel **** - one of the best Pyongyang hotels (first class and deluxe suits are also available at extra charge), it is beautifully located in the middle of Taedong river

    Apr 3 (Tue): Pyongyang Wonsan

    • Breakfast
    • Drive to Wonsan - port city and naval base on the westernmost shore of the East Korean Sea. There are a lot of beautiful beaches around Wonsan making it a touristic Mekka of the DPRK
    • Ulim Waterfall - one of the famous waterfalls in Korea, it was discovered by Korean soldiers in 2001. The waterfall falls from 45m making thunderous sound echo as far as four kilometers around. That is why the waterfall is called "Ullim" or "echo" in Korean
    • Chonsam cooperative farm - "an area of three villages where springs well out" in Korean. You will visit agricultural fields, kindergarten and local store
    • Lunch at Kalmaegi fish restaurant in Wonsan
    • Wonsan central square - located in the city's heart it features recently renovated monuments to the leaders. A few minutes walk from the central square there is a harbor where you can see local people fishing. The Mangyongbong-92 ferry which once shuttled Koreans living in Japan back and forth across the East Sea of Korea is moored here
    • Kaeson Revolutionary Museum in Wonsan - former Wonsan Railway Station turned into museum
    • Wonsan Art Gallery
    • Dinner

    Apr 4 (Wed): Wonsan Pyongyang

    • Breakfast
    • Walk in the beach
    • Songdowon International Children's Union Camp - perfect place for schoolchildren between April and October not only from Korea but from other countries as well. It is situated right on the coast and boasts white, sandy beaches
    • Wonsan Agricultural University - the most important agricultural university in the country
    • Lunch
    • Return to Pyongyang
    • Pyongwa Motors - visit North Korea dealer shop and check out local cars!
    • Three Revolutions Exhibition - several halls showcasing the nation’s technological, cultural and ideological progress following the Korean War. The central building has a shape resembling a spherical planet with rings, similar to the planet of Saturn. The dome itself also houses a planetarium

    Apr 5 (Thu): Pyongyang

    • Breakfast
    • Kumsusan Palace of Sun - Mausoleum of president Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il. To visit the Mausoleum tourists should follow a strict dress code: no shorts, T-shirts and sandals, no blue jeans and mini-skirts
    • Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery - a cemetery and memorial to the North Korean soldiers fighting for freedom and independence against Japanese rule
    • Mansudae Grand Monument - the huge bronze statues of the leaders standing in the center of the composition with two monuments titled "Anti-Japanese Revolutionary Struggle" and "Socialist Construction" on both sides. It was renovated in April 2012 following the passing away of the leader Kim Jong Il and a new statue of Kim Jong Il was added next to Kim Il Sung's
    • Chollima Monument - named after a mythical winged horse (Chollima in Korean literally means "thousand-mile horse"). In the period of reconstruction following the Korean War Cholima was the symbol inspiring workers to rebuild their nation at ‘Chollima Speed’
    • Kim Il Sung Square - Pyongyang’s central square where Korea’s massive military parades normally take place. Opened in August Juche 43 (1954) it is the 30th largest square in the world
    • Pyongyang Foreign Language Book Shop - the popular shop where you can buy propaganda posters, books and other souvenirs
    • Lunch
    • Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum - unveiled in 2013 by the leader Kim Jong Un after massive renovation this museum explains the origins of the Korean War (1950-53) between South and North. Here you will see the only US ship captured by a foreign country - the spy ship USS Pueblo, as well as American weapons and shot down planes. The museum features amazing displays and excellent dioramas
    • Pyongyang Embroidery Institute - this is where most Korean embroideries are made. It is named after Kim Jong Suk, mother of the leader Kim Jong Il. It is a great opportunity to buy hand made embroidery at very reasonable price
    • Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace - recently renovated center for local children's extra curricular education. The palace was opened in 1989 and it features striking post-modern piece of design. In 2016 it was re-opened after massive reconstruction and now it is one of the most striking building in the country. After excursion you will have a chance to enjoy amazing children’s performance
    • Mansugyo Beer Bar - a new beer bar in Pyongyang where you can try all types of famous Taedonggang beer including black beer with chocolate and coffee flavour. Great opportunity to meet locals

    Apr 6 (Fri): Pyongyang Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Kaesong Pyongyang

    • Breakfast
    • Drive to Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) - a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea, it is one of the most militarized area on our planet
    • Panmunjom - a village where in 1953 Armistice Talks were held between the DPR Korea and the United Nation Command. Visit the blue tent-like building located exactly on the borderline between Koreas. You can walk around the conference room and hop from South to North Korea while you are in this building. This is one of the few places where you can take pictures of the DPRK military
    • Transfer to Concrete Wall - anti-tank barrier which stretches across the peninsular was constructed by South Korea in 1979 and is designed to look like a natural hill from South Korean side and as a wall from the side of North Korea. Majority of South Koreans are not aware of this wall
    • Kaesong - capital of Korea up to the 15th century. Kaesong is the only city in Korea which has preserved its original historical make up as it hasn't been destroyed during the Korean war. It is a home for 12 historic sites from the UNESCO World Heritage List. Kaesong is considered to be home of Koryo insam (ginseng) and so be prepared to buy some of the best insam in the Far East
    • Janamsan Park - located on a hill overlooking the city it is a great place to enjoy the beautiful panorama of the old Kaesong
    • Lunch at Tongil restaurant - "Tongil" means "Reunification" in Korean, it is one of the most famous restaurants in Kaesong where you will enjoy Traditional Royal Korean Lunch with 12 side-dishes served in brass bowls fit for the kings. For anyone wanting to supplement their lunch, there will be an opportunity to sample Korea’s famous ginseng chicken soup (at extra charge)
    • Sonjuk Bridge - a small stone bridge dating back to 1216, UNESCO World Heritage Site
    • Sungkyunkwan University - the oldest Confucian University established in 10th century. Since 1987 here is Kaesong Koryo Museum (UNESCO) exhibiting one of the largest wooden buildings to still exist in the DPRK. The stamp shop here is excellent place to buy some souvenirs
    • Return to Pyongyang
    • Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification - the monument representing desire of Korean people for reunification. It is shaped in form of two Korean women holding Korean peninsula over the Thongil highway from Pyongyang to DMZ
    • Dinner
    • NEW! Watch Korean movie at Ryomyong Cinema Theater
    • NEW!Stroll in Ryomyong street - opened in April 2017 it is a new posh district of the capital featuring modern architecture

    Apr 7 (Sat): Pyongyang Mt.Myohyang Pyongyang

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Drive to Mt.Myohyang - the Mountain of Mysterious Fragrance, one of the five celebrated mountains of Korea. It is a sacred site as, according to legend, it was the home of King Tangun, forefather of the Korean people. In 2009 UNESCO designated Mount Myohyang a world biosphere reserve
    • International Friendship Exhibition - the world's biggest treasure-house. On exhibit are gifts received by DPRK's leaders over the years. One building stores the presents given to President Kim Il Sung, while a smaller one holds those given to Leader Kim Jong Il
    • Pohyon temple - one of the five famous Buddhist temples of Korea, it was built nearly 1,000 years ago
    • Enjoy your lunch
    • Hike in Manphok valley - "Manphok" means in Korean "valley of ten thousands falls". Enjoy beautiful hermitages, rocks, caves, falls, and pavilions
    • Drive back to Pyongyang
    • Dinner
    • Kaeson Youth Funfair - one of the most popular amusement parks and nightspots in Pyongyang, it was recently renovated. This is a great place to observe local people and take pictures with them

    Pyongyang International Marathon

    • Breakfast in the hotel
    • Get ready for start at Kim Il Sung Stadium - originally built in 1926 and last time renovated in April 1982 the stadium is used these days mainly for football matches. Today it is the home of Pyongyang International Marathon. Marathon starts and ends in this stadium. Those who are not running can stay at the stadium and enjoy soccer match (extra charge) between Korean teams or watch and cheer marathoners from the streets
    • After Marathon Awarding Ceremony move back to the hotel, take shower and change clothes
    • Enjoy Lunch
    • Trolley bus ride - see the streets of the capital from the iconic worker's transport which is still used only in some other former socialist states! It is a classic vehicle from 1950s which is still in service on the streets of Pyongyang. The route starts at Pyongyang Railway Station and ends at Arch of Triumph with stop at Chollima Monument
    • Juche Tower - at 150m it is the highest stone monument in the world. Take elevator to the top of the tower to enjoy the magnificent view of Pyongyang (optional, 5 Euro p/p)
    • Monument to Workers' Party of Korea - opened in Juche 84 (1995) the monument depicts the hammer, sickle and brush seized by a worker, a farmer and an intellectual. The round belt means the single-hearted unity of the leader, Party and people
    • Kwangbok Supermarket - located at one of the biggest city's street it is a popular mall where visitors can exchange money into local Won in order to shop
    • Dinner
    • Taedonggang Diplomatic club - the great place to socialize with expats, enjoy local and foreign drinks (at your own expense)

    • Transfer to the airport
    • Air Koryo flight JS 151 Pyongyang-Beijing at 8.30 in the morning from Pyongyang Airport. Arrive in Beijing at 09.55 in the morning (local time). Please be advised that the flight schedule can be changed with very short notice and therefore we strongly advise not to book your flight from Beijing to the next destination earlier than Monday evening
